Making a case for a PCB usually involves sliding it on a properly sized aluminium extrusion and making the sides. For this slighty more elaborated case, the idea was to reach certain style of a commercial product. It started by drawing the internal features of the HackRF + Portapack boards as shown:
Features like the connectors, lights and screw holes receive a special treatment of becoming "longer" to ease the design in the future stage:
With all these, a wrap is creating around the whole internals. Those special features now form part of the design:
A ruled surface serves as the split line to get the two sides of the case. The idea is to make the top and bottom engage, while locking certain parts (i.e. the antenna connectors) in their respective side:
Finally the rest of the individual sides get another pass of details. A lip and groove is added to the contour, together with an engraving of the author name.
